Simple Meals and Pie

I got a new tool - a julianner. It makes cutting quicker!

I was a bit too excited to use my new julieanner and didn't think about the whole of my meal because I was too hungry and excited. I started cutting the carrots, but I was already boiling rice noodles and sauteeing garlic. Then went the sun dried tomatoes. It really wasn't a good meal, but it looked good and the salt really helped. This was one of those times when you understand the importance of a flavored salt when it makes a meal.
Skinny Oven Fries:
These tasted much like hash browns. The potatoes were sprayed with olive oil and sprinkled with salt before baking.

Melon Baller!
Another fun kitchen tool, but doing an entire watermelon - it's a lot of work. I always wanted to serve punch out of a watermelon so I balled most the melon. I forgot to take a picture of my watermelon punch bowl though!
I threw in some leechies for color.

Coconut Cream Pie with Lime Sauce:
I am still working on my pie recipe. This recipe is a mixture of this recipe and a vanilla tofu pudding recipe. Unfortunately, the pie didn't set. But it tasted damn good!

Ooh! I've always wanted a julienne tool, or was that a mandolin--maybe it's that you can julienne with a mandolin. Cool! Very pretty with the carrots and all.

The only beverage related thing I've ever done with a watermelon was to fill it with vodka. In retrospect, an ill-fated decision. I'm sure your watermelon punch bowl was a much smarter route.

The pie is SO cute! I bought a mandoline for cutting veggies & it makes beautiful cuts, but has also managed to take a few fingertips off! ouch!

Weebles, I agree. The pie is adorable. I want to poke my finger into the green stuff on top. Really badly. Did you get the kind of julienner that looks like a vegetable peeler?

It's really hot here, and I'm finding myself swooning over your watermelon/lychee photo. Sounds so utterly refreshing right now!

Great blog and excellent pictures. When I have some time I am definitely going to try out your recipes! Also, will there be another PPK gathering? If so, how do I join?

oh man, I thought I commented back. I left a note back for you in my comments, but here is the gist of it: I think you can do it in two days, but for your first time it's a good idea to have the extra day to recouperate, in case you need it. The liver cleanse seems to hit people differently.

Hope to see you soon! The ex is finally gone, I shoudl have a party one of these days (except yoga teacher training starts in less than a month... yikes!)

Your pie is so cute! I love polka dots and I love green and I love coconut cream pie - sounds like a winner!

I need a mandolin to julienne veggies too. Too bad I am cheap.

Julie - Thanks. That's such a big compliment coming from you!

Melisser - I've punctured my fingers a few times while julienning. I thought about people who are so into fashion that they ignore the pain.

Kittee - I did get the cheap julienner that looks like a vegetable peeler. It's great because it also zests!

Megan - You should should the ppk boards and check out the events. It seems the PDX kids get together once a month or so. Lots of fun, creative people there.

Erica - A party sounds great!
